21-Day Fast: Day 8 - The Sacrifice at the Altar
What kind of sacrifice do you bring at the altar?
The church has been polluted with unauthorized sacrifices because believers have not brought the right sacrifices. This has therefore given birth to the culture of “everything goes” and the enemy has taken advantage and is now operational at the same altar which is meant to be holy. Romans 12:1 “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship”. This is what is expected of us, living, holy and acceptable lives before God. NOTHING MORE NOTHING LESS.
Leviticus 17:11 “For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life.” The life of Jesus Christ has made atonement for us, nothing is left. All we need to do is to put on Jesus and everything He offered and come to the altar.
Hebrews 10:26 “For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins”.
Plead for mercy for continued sins being brought to the altar.
Genesis 8:20-21 “Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and took some of every clean animal and some of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And when the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, the Lord said in His heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man's heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done.”
Noah brought clean animals to the Lord and when God smelled it, it was pleasing to Him and He made a declaration: “NEVER AGAIN”. The type of sacrifice we offer can bring an everlasting change in our lives for good or bad. Pray that we will always bring a sacrifice that is pleasing to the Lord.
Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Pray that you will come with a renewed mind focusing solely on why you are at the altar.
Psalm 51:17 “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.”
Pray that when we came to the altar we will come with a broken spirit and a contrite heart so that God can relate to us.
Genesis 22:2 “He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”
Abraham was asked to offer all he had, the very son he was blessed with at an old age. He did not hold back. What is God telling you to lay at the altar? Pray that God will help you not to hold back what is His in the first place from Him.
Ephesians 5: 1-2 “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
Pray that we will come as an image of the Father ready to give love as Christ did for us
Hebrew 13:15 “Through Him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.”
Pray that we will come with praise which is the fruit of our lips to acknowledge what God has done for us.
Jonah 2:9 “But I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Salvation belongs to the Lord!”
Pray that we will come with a heart of thanksgiving; being appreciative of life in abundance in Christ Jesus.
Titus 2:14 “Who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.”
Pray that we will come with a heart to remember that we have been redeemed and therefore we must be zealous to do good works that will bring glory to God.
Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Pray that we will come with a heart to serve and not to be served following the example of Jesus.
2 Samuel 24:24 “But the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will buy it from you for a price. I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God that cost me nothing.” So, David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.”
David had a price tag on his sacrifice to God. What is yours? Jesus died for us without us paying for anything. What can we render in appreciation? Pray that we will render to God sacrifices that cost us something.
Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
Pray that as we come to the altar and present ourselves as a living sacrifice, it will not be about us but Christ that dwells in us for our lives is not our own.
Exodus 20:24 “An altar of earth you shall make for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your oxen. In every place where I cause my name to be remembered I will come to you and bless you.”
Our kind of sacrifice command the blessings. Pray that as we come to the altar, it will be a place where God will cause His name to be remembered so that He will intend bless us.
Philippians 2:4 “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
Pray that God will grant us the grace to come with other people’s needs in mind. Not selfish to focus on us alone all the time.
Add as led by the Spirit of God for this is only a guide.
