How amazing it is when one reflects on these passages above. Prophet Zechariah introduces the Savior to the church as a king, giving one an opportunity to have a mental picture of a king; a recognizable figure with all that the name brings and stands for, yet it continues by stating He is righteous, humble, and being transported by a colt? How can a believer in Christ Jesus says he/she is serving God while walking in pride and arrogance? Serving God is what each and every believer in Christ Jesus has been called into. Humility is the key that unlocks the door of service. Zechariah 9:9 illustrates how Jesus came to serve God in human form on earth, leaving behind all the “goodies” of heaven and humbled Himself to use a colt for His grand entry into Jerusalem. He had the means, the power, and the ability to command the best means and entourage to usher Him into Jerusalem, but He did not do so because that would have been contrary to His mission of a SERVANT for God’s SERVICE on earth. It was humbling enough for the “Mighty and Holy God” to choose to set the “sinner man” free in the place of His wrath. Thus, there was no other way Jesus would have presented Himself in the service of His Father to accomplish the mission of saving lives. Philippians 2:5-8 further clarifies this humble state of the Servant-Jesus who was here on earth to serve His Father’s interest. Jesus was God but never in the state of a SERVANT made any attempt to equalize Himself with God, however He totally EMPTIED Himself from everything he had. If any believer will therefore serve this great and mighty God, he/she must and cannot bypass humility. We must totally be like Jesus, empty everything we hold dear and present ourselves as EMPTY VESSELS for Him to fill and use. Humility is what ushers the “SERVANT” into the place of “SERVICE” he/she has been called to render services and nothing else can be exchanged for it. May the Lord open our eyes to see the need to be humbled enough so we can actually be servants and so accomplish the mission of the service of saving lives through the word of God.
Pray that everyone who considers themselves a servant must acknowledged that they are nothing before God. Genesis 18:27 “Abraham answered and said, “Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord, I who am but dust and ashes…”
Ask the Lord to reveal to us who we really are. Exodus 3:11 “But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?”
Oh that man may be humble because humility drives away the wrath of God. 1 Kings 21:29 “Have you seen how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself before me, I will not bring the disaster in his days; but in his son’s days I will bring the disaster upon his house.” 2 Chronicles 12:12 “And when he humbled himself the wrath of the LORD turned from him, so as not to make a complete destruction. Moreover, conditions were good in Judah.”
Humility opens the door of grace and spiritual upliftment so pray for help. 1 Peter 5:5-6 “Young men, in the same way, submit yourselves to your elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.”
Humility assist us to grow in the grace and knowledge of God there we because better in our place of service: 2 Peter 3:18 “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen”.
Humility enables man to submit to God and without God we are nothing before the enemy. James 4:7 “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
Humility enables man to walk in power and authority in the service of the Lord. Isaiah 61:1 “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is on Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release from darkness to the prisoners.”
Humility is an expected quality of the call to service so we must choose to cloth ourselves with it. Colossians 3:12 “Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
Therefore, pray that we may cloth ourselves with Christ and nothing else as He is the symbol of humility. Romans 13:14 “Instead, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the desires of the flesh.”
Humility is the fertilizer for bearing fruits that last, therefore desire it. Galatians 5:22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.” Matthew 7:18 “A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit.”
Humility gives us access into the presence of God. 2 Chronicle 7:14 “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
God does not care about our sacrifices to Him if not offered in humility for humility pleases God. Micah 6:7-8 “Would the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I present my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”
Humility is a catalyst that enables man to fear the Lord. Deuteronomy 10:12 "And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God by walking in all His ways, to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.”
Humility enables man to do what is right before God and man without which man would have wasted his time claiming a service for the Lord. Isaiah 56:1 “This is what the LORD says: "Maintain justice and do what is right, for My salvation is coming soon, and My righteousness will be revealed.”
Humility creates a conducive spiritual atmosphere for God to dwell in man. Isaiah 57:15 “For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: "I dwell in a high and holy place, and with the oppressed and humble of spirit, to restore the spirit of the lowly and revive the heart of the contrite.”
When the Lord makes His dwelling in man, it creates a better way for Him to drive away the enemy of a man’s life. Deuteronomy 33:27 “The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He drives out the enemy before you, giving the command, 'Destroy him!”
Humility makes God to notice man for favor. Isaiah 66:2 “Has not My hand made all these things? And so they came into being, declares the LORD. This is the one I will esteem: he who is humble and contrite in spirit, who trembles at My word.”
There is a reward for being humble, go for it. Proverbs 22:4 “The reward for humility and fear of the Lord is riches and honor and life.” Proverbs 29:23 “One's pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.”
