Day 10: Ask the Lord for The Nations

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance.

— Psalm 33:12
For the nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish; yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted.
— Isaiah 60:12
Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.
— Psalm 2:8

One thing that is of concern among the people of the nations of the earth is the fact that they all must deal with the good, the bad, and the ugly. God is a good God but he is also the judge of the earth. In judging, he displays justice and rewards accordingly. Most often people find it hard to comprehend because they only see or want to remain on the good side. According to Psalm 33:12, a nation who has made God their Lord is blessed and God has made the people of such a nation his inheritance. However, Isaiah 60:12 is the contrary; nations that will not serve God will be wasted and of course, they will not be his inheritance. When nations refuse to serve God, he displays the power of his name through his wrath as stated in Ezekiel 36:23 “I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord, declares the Sovereign Lord when I am proved holy through you before their eyes.”

God is not pleased with a sinner. Psalm 5:4 “For you are not a God who is pleased with wickedness; with you, evil people are not welcome”. Psalm 34:16 “But the face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to wipe out all memory of them from the earth.”

Intercessors are called to come in-between the people and God’s wrath, and plead for mercy. Jesus had to come in between God and the sinner so that God would show mercy and deliver man from his wrath. 1 Timothy 1:15 “Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners–of whom I am the worst.”

Moses stood between the Israelites and God to avert the wrath of God. Exodus 32: 9- 11 “The LORD also said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and they are indeed a stiff-necked people. Now leave Me alone, so that My anger may burn against them and consume them. Then I will make you into a great nation.” But Moses sought the favor of the LORD his God, saying, “O LORD, why does Your anger burn against Your people, whom You brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand?”

Today as intercessors, God is calling you and me to stand in between the nations and God and cry out that God will remember to show mercy upon the nations; to cry for the salvation of the nations; to cry for the wicked leaders to open their hearts to Jesus. God delights in the salvation of the nation. He answers prayers. (Psalm 65:2)

Prayer points

  • In life, it can be a challenge to advocate for something or take responsibility for what you don’t own or like. Asking God for the nations, in this case, means you want to take a nation(s) and stand in the gap in prayer; praying for everything the Lord puts in your spirit. Ask God today and pray for his divine intervention: Psalm 2:8 “Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.”

  • Call on the nations to come to the Lord, the only place of their salvation: Isaiah 45:22 “Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.”

  • Pray that the Word of the Lord will come to pass before the nations of the earth: Isaiah 45:23 – “By myself I have sworn, my mouth has uttered in all integrity a word that will not be revoked: Before me every knee will bow; by me every tongue will swear.”

  • Pray that the nations of the earth will fear the Lord, serve him only, and walk in holiness:  “Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him.” Psalm 33:8. “All kings will bow down to him and all nations will serve him.” Psalm 72:11

  • Pray that all nations of the earth come forth and worship this great God and bring him glory:  “All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord; they will bring glory to your name.” Psalm 86:9

  • Pray that the nations of the earth will remember their creator and turn to Him in repentance: “All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him.” Psalm 22:27

  • Jesus is the ONLY answer to unrighteousness. We must pray that Jesus be enthroned upon the nations: “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.” Proverbs 14: 34

  • Call on the Lord to arise in the nations of the earth and execute his justice. There is so much turmoil on the earth; nation against nation; people against people; tribe against tribe; city against city; neighbor against neighbor; there is no peace:  “He will judge between many peoples and will settle disputes for strong nations far and wide. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.” Micah 4:3

  • Call on the Mighty Man of War, the victorious God who never fails in battles. Call on him to arise in the nations so that wars among men will come to an end. His name must be exalted in the nations: “He makes wars to cease throughout the earth; He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; He burns the shields in the fire. “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted over the earth.” Psalm 46: 9-10

  • Pray that the Spirit of the Lord will draw the nations to himself and will course them to listen and pay attention to his Word: “Come near, you nations, and listen; pay attention, you peoples! Let the earth hear, and all that is in it, the world, and all that comes out of it!” Isaiah 34:1

  • Pray that God will uproot leaders who stand against his will for the nations: “He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.” Daniel 2:21

  • Pray for the leaders of the nations;  that God will arrest their hearts and help them lead according to his Word. Pray that God will raise God-fearing leaders in the nations: “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way”. 1 Timothy 2:1-2

  • Declare the blessing of the Lord over the nations of the earth:  “May his name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun. All nations will be blessed through him, and they will call him blessed.” Psalm 72:17

  • Say this: Father, we declare your glory among the nations of the earth;  for all the marvelous things you have done; for delivering the nations; and for hearing our prayers:  “Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.” 1 Chronicles 16:24
