2023 Retreat Preparatory Prayers - Day 10: Praying for Leaders in Authority

“2 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
— 1 Timothy 2:1-2

God expects intercessors to pray for leaders irrespective of whether they are God fearing or not. If you take a look at most leaders of the nations of the world, you will find out that most of them are religious people in their own way but most of them does not have Christ. Therefore their leadership is based on human wisdom with all its limitations.

Mathew 1:21 “She will give birth to a Son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins." Act 4:12 “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Pray for the salvation of leaders in spiritual and physical positions of authority in the nations.

Ezekiel 36:25-37 “ 25I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.” Pray that God in his ways will cleanse their hearts, give them a new heart by removing the heart of stone and allowing his Spirit to direct and guide them.

Isaiah 50:10 “Who among you fears the LORD and obeys the word of his servant? Let the one who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the LORD and rely on their God.” Proverb 1:7 “7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Pray that the fear of God to consume the hearts of leaders”

2 Chronicles 1:10 “Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?” 1 Kings 4:12 “God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore” Ask God to give leaders of the church and nations wisdom to lead the people in the direction that honors God and brings him glory.

1 Samuel 18:1 “Now it came about when he had finished speaking to Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as himself.” Pray that God will raise helpers for leaders who will help them accomplish the purpose that God has set for them.

1 Samuel 12:23 “As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right.” Pray that God will raise dedicated intercessors who will war in the spirit to ensure that God’s plan for leaders come to pass.
