2023 Retreat Preparatory Prayers - Day 6: The Persecuted Church

“10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
— Matthew 5:10-12

There is so much that is unknown around the world when it comes to the persecuted church because nobody talks about them. Two weeks ago a church in Belarus was burnt down and members had to worship God in a parking lot. As intercessors we must pray constantly for the persecuted church around the nations. Prayer is the power that encourages and sustains them as they deal with the enemy of the church.

Pray that God in His mercies will blessed them in a way that only He knows how.

Revelation 2:10-11 “10 Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.” Pray for the grace to be courageous and be faithful in the mist of persecution.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 “9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” It can be terrible to face persecution. Only God knows how to sustain the persecuted church. Pray for a revelation of the grace that sustains and God’s power that is at work even in their weakness.

2 Timothy 3:11-12 “11 persecutions, sufferings—what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Romans 8:35-37 “35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Pray that the demonstration of God’s love with fill the hearts of the persecuted church so that they will know that even in the mist of their struggle the Love of Christ will prevail.

Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.” Pray that in the mist of persecution, they will be strong to preach the gospel with no fear.
