Day 16: Breaking free from forces of Wickedness

“24 Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered? 25 But thus saith the Lord, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children. 26 And I will feed them that oppress thee with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the Lord am thy Saviour and thy Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob.”

— Isaiah 49:24-26
“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
— John 8:36
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
— Galatians 5:1

When growing up with my grandparents, my grandfather would discipline us in such a way that looks abusive in today’s world. He would ask us to kneel, probably for about 10 minutes. While kneeling, my grandfather was always there watching to ensure we did not get up before time. Each time I was punished, I often felt like I was in prison. When released, it felt like a big weight was lifted off me. Well, my punishment was based on what I did wrong.

Spiritual wicked attacks on one’s life often do not necessarily mean one did something wrong. The devil holds people hostage for many reasons, especially if you have just given your life over to Christ. There are also legal grounds on which you may or may not be aware. That is why the revelation of God’s word is crucial in our daily walk with God.

According to John 8:36, if Jesus sets you free, then you are free. What is this freedom? And freedom from what? From sin and shame, freedom from yokes, diseases, burdens, family household witchcraft, failure, pain, sorrow, etc. Although we have been declared free, the devil and his agents are not happy; that is why there is so much wickedness in the world today. But the word of God and prayer is our weapon to defeat any form of wickedness. Remember, it’s not a garden of roses; it’s an investment. Jesus gave us freedom when he completed the work on the cross, but as you know, satan cannot watch you walk in it. We must fight to keep our freedom.

Mathew 11:12 :“From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence, and violent people have been raiding it.”

We must arise as a church and let the devil know for a fact that he will not have a field day in our lives, homes, marriages, children, destinies, and churches, etc.

According to Proverbs 26:2 “Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse does not come to rest.”

This is true, but it’s also true that Jesus gave us Freedom. Therefore, we are a new creation in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:17); even if we are legal captives, we must be set free(Isaiah 49:24-26); it’s a new down; it’s a new day of the Lord.

Prayer Points

  1. Thank God for sending Jesus to the cross on our behalf to deliver us and set us free. Thank Jesus for finishing the work he was assigned to complete.

  2. Ask God for forgiveness and mercy in any way we have invited some of this wickedness to ourselves.

  3. Pray that the church will arise to the understanding of the truth about the coming of Jesus Christ- setting us free

1 John 5:20: “And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.”

  4. Stand on this word “Colossians 2:15 “quoted and reminds satan that he had his day to defend himself, but Jesus defeated him, and therefore, Jesus won on the cross. The verdict has not changed and will never change. Colossians 2:15: “And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.” Therefore, none of the powers of satan shall do us harm. The reason why every true child of God can stand and boldly say they have been set free from the snare of the wicked is tied to Colossians 2:15. When Jesus went to the cross, the devil fought him so that he continued to hold us captive by his power, but Jesus paid with his blood.

  5. Stand on this word to pray against all evil weapons against any aspect of your being. Ephesians 6:12: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world’s darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

  6. Pray against strongholds of the mind, and take captive wicked thoughts in the minds of people who stand in the way of their abilities to serve God. Instead, they are engaged in wickedness toward others. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5: “3 For though we live in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh. 4 The weapons of our warfare are not the weapons of the flesh. Instead, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every presumption set up against the knowledge of God; and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

  7. Declare that because God has not cursed you, therefore no curse against you, your family, marriage, children, ministry, or destiny shall stand. Number 23:8: “How can I curse those whom God has not cursed? How can I denounce those whom the LORD has not denounced? Deuteronomy 23:5: “Yet the LORD your God would not listen to Balaam, and the LORD your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the LORD your God loves you.”

  8. Pray for the investment of time in the word of God so that truth can be established against the lies of the enemy. John 8:32-36: “32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” 34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

  9. Pray for the anointing to flow upon the lives of ministers so that they preach and teach the true word, which has the power to deliver captives and set souls free. Isaiah 61: 1 “The Spirit of the Lord GOD is on Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners.”

  10. Ask God for the grace to be alert in the spirit so that you will not become prey to the devil. 1 Peter 5:8: “Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

  11. Pray for the desire to dwell in the presence of God where there is the spirit of God, and therefore, liberty will be experiencedPsalm 84:10: “For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.”  Hebrew 12: 22-24 “22 But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23 to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.”

  12. Pray that the blood of Jesus will liberate every soul held captive by the enemy. Pray that we will declare our testimony in Christ Jesus because that is how we overcome. Revelation 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

  13. Jesus came to set the captives free and destroy the works of the devil. Declare this truth over every captive. 1 John 3:8: “The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.”
