“To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever.”
Have you ever pondered over these bible verses and wondered why Christians still walk in bondage? Jesus spoke to a group of people who had believed Him and admonished them to hold on to the word they have been thought. This is what qualified them to be called disciples. “It is therefore important that when we hear or read God’s word and understand what it says, there must be a faith that activates our ability to believe the word and hold onto it for the word to manifest itself.” Hebrews 11:6 says “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”
A disciple is a branch permanently attached to a vine, knowing that his or her existence and abilities depends solely on the vine and at any time this varies, it creates a problem. This is the truth that must be established and held onto in order to be free. Thus, the amount of truth known, believed, and applied, determines the degree of our freedom. Anyone who sins is a slave and has no permanent place in the household of God. Our heritage as sons and daughters of the King is not a license to walk in ignorance. Acts 17:30 “In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent”. Jesus the Son of God represents the word of God which is the truth that is able to set us free. Desire to study His word today, absorb it into your system, allow it to digest and flow through your entire body, and finally glue it to your heart, then it will begin to bring the freedom it is intended for.
Prayer Points
Father deliver me from any ignorance and unbelief
Spirit of God help me understand the word of God when I study it.
Deliver me Father from any wave that constant pull me away from you.
I confess any sin that easily entangles me and I can cover from mind with the blood of Jesus.
Help me oh God to hide your word in my heart so I will not sin against you.
