Sleep

21-Day Fast: Day 9 - Wake Up from Sleep, Church!

How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber and want like an armed man.
— Proverb 6:9-11

How long will the church stay asleep and allow the enemy to carry everything and take over? It is time to wake up church! It’s time to take back what the enemy has stolen.  God never sleeps!!! Psalm 121:3-4 “He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.” Can you imagine if God were to go to sleep just for few minutes what would happen? But the church that He watches went to sleep and never woke up.

Is sleep bad for the church?

Sleep is a good thing that the Lord provides but we cannot sleep like fools. Psalm 3:5 “I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the Lord sustained me.” Job 33:15 “In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, while they slumber on their beds,” In the process the of sleep we get revelation.

Why do we need to be awake?

Mathew 13:25 “But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away.”

  • It is in the night time that the enemy is most active. Pray that the Lord will arise and protect his Church against the wickedness at the hour of sleep.

The spirit of Delilah operates in the dark.

Judges 16: 13-14 “Then Delilah said to Samson, "Up to now you have deceived me and told me lies; tell me how you may be bound." And he said to her, "If you weave the seven locks of my hair with the web [and fasten it with a pin, then I will become weak and be like any other man." So while he slept, Delilah took the seven locks of his hair and wove them into the web]. And she fastened it with the pin and said to him, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson!" But he awoke from his sleep and pulled out the pin of the loom and the web.”

  • Pray that God will awaken the church to rise up and pray out the spirit of Delilah draining the strength of the Samsons who have been positioned to wage war against the enemy.

Luke 22:45-46 “When He rose from prayer, He came to the disciples and found them sleeping from sorrow, and said to them, "Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you may not enter into temptation."

  • The enemy understands our crucial breakthrough hour and that is when he sends you slept the most. Pray that the church will arise from sleep and pray away the different forms of temptation that has come upon the church.

Ephesians 5:14 “For anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

  • Declare that the light of Jesus might shine forth. Pray that sleep will not prevent the work of deliverance from darkness

Romans 13:11-12 “And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.”

  • The church must understand the times in which we are and wake up. It is time to cry out for the salvation of souls. The end is drawing near and the devil is populating hell yet the church is watching. We must rise up and shine the light of Jesus upon every dark corner of the earth for the devil to let go the captives. Jesus is coming some. Oh let the church arise and cry out.

2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slow to fulfill His promise as some understand slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance.”

  • The Lord is waiting on the church to pray the prayer according to 1 Peter 4:7 “The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear-minded and sober, so that you can pray.”  Pray that the Lord will give us clear minds and sober attitudes so we can pray without ceasing.

1 Thessalonians 5:6-7 “So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.”

  • Call on the church to arise and be awake because the night is the time of wicked manipulations.

Psalm 132: 4-5 “I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, until I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.”

  • What does this means to us today? This means that there should be no sleep until the Lord becomes the sole owner of every aspect of our being and dwell within us. Declare this word over your life and the church in the name of Jesus.

Proverbs 6:10-11 “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man.”

  • Pray against spiritual poverty that has been brought about by sleep.

Proverbs 19:15 “Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep, and an idle person will suffer hunger.”

  • Pray against the spirit of laziness that has encouraged sleep in the church.

Proverb 20:13 “Love not sleep, lest you come to poverty; open your eyes, and you will have plenty of bread.”

  • Can you imagine what it means to love sleep? Pray that the church will not love sleep

Mark 13:35-37 “Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back--whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to everyone: 'Watch!”

  • Pray that the church will arise and put on wisdom and be watchful. We do not know the time Jesus will return. Can you imagine He comes when we are sleeping?

Ephesians 5:14-15 “This is why it is said: "Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. "Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise but as wise.”

  • Jesus wants to shine forth His light in the church but we must wake up. It’s only when we are fully awake that He can shine through us. Pray that the church will rise from the sleep of death and shine forth the light into the darkness.

Isaiah 52:1 “Awaken, awaken, clothe yourself with strength, O Zion! Put on your garments of splendor, O Jerusalem, Holy City! For the uncircumcised and unclean will not again enter you.”

  • God is calling on the church to arise and stop the influx of the unclean and uncircumcised into the church. We can only chase them out when we are awake. Pray that the church will arise and chase out these unclean spirits that have infested the church like bed bugs.

Isaiah 26:19 “Your dead will live; their bodies will rise. Awake and sing, you who dwell in the dust! For your dew is like the dew of the morning, and the earth will bring forth her dead.”

  • The Lord says to the intercessors of the church arise again. Do not sleep, stay awake and sing. Pray that God will strengthened intercessors that have been waiting on God to awaken the church. It’s time not to give up. The breakthrough for the church is around.

Add as led by the Spirit of God for this is only a guide.
