But the anointing we have received- as children of God, we have already received an anointing that dwells within us and teaches us what is needed for a Godly life. This anointing does not come from a man; thus, we should guard against being deceived. However, this does not also imply we cannot be taught or guided by someone.
Pray that no one will deceive you in your quest for spiritual knowledge.
With this anointing within us, we are expected to know the truth. Thus, maintaining it also requires maintaining the true word of God.
John 8:38: “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” If we know the truth, we will not be deceived by false prophets and teachers. 2 Corinthians 11:13-15
“13 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 So it is no surprise if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.”
To maintain the oil, we must have the true word of God in us. Pray that the truth of God’s word will dwell in us so that we are not deceived by any false words or promises.
Colossians 2:8: “See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.”
We have received the anointing via the Spirit of the Lord, therefore to maintain the oil, we must allow the Holy Spirit to be our guide.
Zechariah 4:6: “Then he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.” We cannot do anything by our own standards.
Isaiah 61:1: “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.”
To maintain the oil, we must abide by the source of the oil- the true vine.
John 15:4-9 “4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. 5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you[a] will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.”
Pray that the grace to abide in the true vine will rest on us for that is the way to continually flow in the oil.
Leviticus 6:12: “The fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must not go out. Every morning the priest is to add firewood and arrange the burnt offering on the fire and burn the fat of the fellowship offerings on it.”
To maintain the oil, there must be continuous fellowship, surrender, commitment, total dying to self, total following, and sacrifice; we are his temple, dwelling in his presence. Giving no gap for the enemy to infiltrate our lives.
Pray that God will help us.
1 Samuel 10:1: “Then Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on his head and kissed him and said, “Has not the Lord anointed you to be prince over his people Israel? And you shall reign over the people of the Lord and you will save them from the hand of their surrounding enemies. And this shall be the sign to you that the Lord has anointed you to be prince over his heritage.”
If God has anointed us, therefore, we are answerable to him alone, not to those we serve, as they can easily make one upset. Therefore, we are careful not to become upset and commit sin. To maintain the oil, we must get rid of sin as quickly as possible. We cannot leave in assumption. 1 John 1:8-10 “8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar, and his word is not in us.”
Ask God for forgiveness of any sin that is dwelling within you.
Colossians 1:15-20: “15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.”
To maintain the oil, we must be rooted in the revelation knowledge of who God is. He has revealed himself through his son. Pray for a desire to know him more and be rooted in him daily.
Colossians 3:17: “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
We must not forget to thank the God of our salvation. There is nothing really better than a heart filled with gratitude.
